A note on these groups
Five people wrote in their own description, such as “half-time clinician, half-time researcher”. I placed each in the closest group.
How often do they use AI?
Most use AI at least weekly, and 66 people (43%) use it every day. Ten (6%) said they never use it.
What are the main apps they use?
ChatGPT was named most often, then Copilot, Claude and the clinical scribe Heidi. People could name more than one.
What were the “other” apps?
Consensus (4), OpenEvidence (2), Speechify (2), and one each of Abacus AI, Canva, Everbility, Granola, Grammarly, Halaxy, Listening, Lumo, Lyrebird, Notion, Obsidian, Perplexity, Psynth, Research Rabbit, Whisper Flow, Zanda, an “institutional tool”, and a home-built LLM. NovoNote includes NovoPsych, and Gemini includes NotebookLM. The 24 people who named no apps aren't shown.
How much did they pay for AI each month?
Most pay nothing (57%). Among those who pay, $21–50 a month is most common, and 11 people (7%) spend more than $100 a month.
The AI Nerd Quiz
The AI Nerd Quiz tested people's familiarity with frontier AI. People matched 20 names to 4 companies (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or Other). Most scored in the pink band, the range you'd expect from guessing at random. Only 17 people (14%) scored higher.
See who was left out of the analysis
The analysis leaves out 19 people who said they looked up answers and 13 who answered “Other” to every word, leaving 123 people.

Do frequent users know more about frontier AI?
Possibly…? The chart below shows the same 123 people with valid AI Nerd Quiz scores, by how often they use AI.
Who looked up answers on the quiz?
The power users did. A total of 19 people admitted looking things up, and 10 of them use AI multiple times a day (53%).
AI: Good or Bad?
When neuronerds were asked if AI was good or bad, they were cautiously positive overall. The most common rating was 7 out of 10. But opinions spanned the whole scale, from sceptics to enthusiasts.
